How Honiton Street Market is attracting the next generation of traders

By Hannah Corfield 17th Sep 2021

Honiton's status as a market town has been in place since it was granted a charter in the 13th century. For hundreds of years, the high street has regularly accommodated for the many varied stalls that the market attracts.

It runs every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings and boasts a wide variety of produce including; artisan bread, birthday cards, plants, clothes and wicker ware.

Nub News spoke to Honiton Market Manager, Tony McCollum, who explained how the market remains relevant for this modern town.

"We're working with the National Market Traders Federation trying to encourage young people, between the ages 16-30, to have a go at starting their own market stall through introductory offers.

"Howling Wolf Coffee is one such example of the younger generation giving it a go and being supported in the process."

"The heart of Honiton is the market, along with the independent businesses, which are what brings people in to the town."

With lots on offer and some great deals to be had, it is always worth popping into Honiton on market day to support the local traders.
