How Honiton will be marking Remembrance Sunday: Live streamed and socially distanced
In light of the pandemic, Honiton will be marking Remembrance Day - this coming Sunday (Nov 8) - in accordance with the Government guidelines.
This means that the number of people attending the War Memorial wreath laying service are to be greatly reduced; with people encouraged to stand on their doorsteps in observance of the two minute silence at 11am.
Honiton Nub News will be live streaming the event through Facebook, which can be accessed any time after.
The local policing team will also be present to ensure that social distancing and appropriate mask wearing are adhered to.
Chairman, Paul S Shaw said: "At this time of year we would normally be preparing our annual Remembrance Day Parade in Honiton, an event that is held in high regard by the public and attended by many.
"The recent news of lockdown two has bought these plans to an abrupt end.
"It goes without saying that we cannot sit back and do nothing - the act of remembrance will always be close to our hearts.
"This years event will now take the following format:
"Members of the Royal British Legion Branch will hold an act of remembrance at the Honiton War Memorial starting at 10:45 Hours on Sunday 8 November 2020.
"A few representatives of civic and youth organisations have been invited to attend and lay wreaths in the normal manner.
"We would request only those who are laying wreaths to attend the event and observe social distancing whilst they lay their wreaths.
"Further to this we ask that everyone attending wears a face mask, observes social distancing and does not congregate in groups.
"We are requesting that those members of the public that would normally attend this event stand on their doorsteps and take part in out two minutes silence at 11am.
"Thank you for your support at this critical time."
