Four car parks on East Devon's Pebblebed Heaths are set to see some improvements this winter after plans were approved this week.

Planning consent has been granted for Joney's Cross Car Park near Hawkerland, Four Firs Car Park near Woodbury, roadside parking at Stowford near Colaton Raleigh, and Frying Pans Car Park near Bicton Common.

The purpose of the works is to improve access for visitors to the Pebblebed Heaths, which was recently awarded National Nature Reserve status, and protect wildlife.

Councillor Martin Wrigley, Chair of the South East Devon Habitat Regulation Executive Committee and Teignbridge Executive Member for Communities, Housing and IT, said: "The improvements to the surfacing, layout, drainage and visibility of the existing car parking are much-needed due to increased use from people enjoying the heath.

"These changes will help people to park appropriately and so will also protect the internationally important wildlife and heritage sites for the future."

There will also be new information boards with maps to help people explore the heaths.
