Honiton town councillor Jake Bonetta has been elected as the new district councillor for the St Michael's ward.
A by-election was held yesterday to replace the former St Michael's district councillor Luke Jeffery, who stepped down to focus on his university course.
Labour candidate Jake won the seat with a clear majority, with 807 votes. His Conservative rival Jenny Brown won 522, and the Liberal Democrat candidate Jules Hoyles got 63.
Following the result, Jake posted on Twitter: "I cannot thank the residents of Honiton St. Michael's enough for electing me as their new District Councillor. It is an honour and privilege to be able to be able to represent the community with integrity, transparency, and with a local focus. Thank you."
The St Michael's ward has two seats on the district council; the other is held by Conservative councillor Phil Twiss.
There was also a by-election to fill the vacancy for Feniton, which has been won by the Conservative candidate Alasdair Bruce.
He gained 239 votes, with Labour's Linda Baden gaining 126 and Todd Olive, for the Lib Dems, winning 82.
