This Christmas will see the return of the popular event Carols by Candlelight at Sidmouth's Donkey Sanctuary.

For the last two years the event has only taken place online due to the pandemic.

It will take place on Friday 9 December.

Thousands of candles will be lit to illuminate the sanctuary, which is located the international headquarters of the charity.

The festive event will feature traditional Christmas Carols from the Exeter Railway Band and seasonal readings. The charity's own choir will also perform, and it will take place surrounded by the sanctuary's resident donkeys.

John Crouch, Visitor Engagement Manager said: "We are pleased to be able to welcome visitors back to our wonderful Carols by Candlelight event.

"We hope all that everyone will join us, either in person or online, and have a truly memorable evening."

The Gift Shop will be open throughout the evening for those who wish to do some Christmas shopping and the onsite restaurant, The Kitchen, will be serving hot food and drink.

If you are unable to attend the event in person, you can follow the proceedings online as it will be broadcast via the award winning 'Sanctuary From Your Sofa' on The Donkey Sanctuary's website.

Tickets for the event are available now and cost £5 per vehicle.
