Man arrested on suspicion of theft and burglary from vehicles in Honiton

A 25-year-old man from Leighton Buzzard has been arrested on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle and burglary after incidents in Honiton over the weekend.

Police believe the man is responsible for taking power tools from a vehicle on Pine Park Road and gas canisters from a food van on Ottery Moor Lane.

Police were alerted to the thefts at 9.35am on Saturday, August 15.

A police spokesperson said: "A food van in Ottery Moor Lane, Honiton, was broken into sometime between 4.30pm on Friday, August 14, and 8am on August 15. Two gas canisters and cans of drink were stolen. A fridge/freezer was also damaged.

Officers attended and an area search was carried out with the assistance of the police helicopter. A man was detained by police around 11.30am.

The man from Leighton Buzzard was arrested on suspicion of theft and burglary. He has been released on bail until September 9.

The police investigation into both incidents is ongoing.
