Honiton town councillor, Duncan Sheridan-Shaw, has announced that he will be standing for election as the town's mayor.
Having carried out the role of deputy mayor for the past two years, for two very different mayors, Duncan is well-placed to bring his own unique style to the position.
The decision is to be made at a full council meeting on Monday, May 4, where Honiton Town Council members will be given the opportunity to vote.
The town clerk has confirmed that at this present moment in time, he is unaware of any other councillors expressing an interest in becoming mayor.
Nub News will make contact with all candidates, as and when an announcement of a bid to stand is made public.
Duncan Sheridan-Shaw told Nub News: "I have served as deputy to two very different mayors in my time as a town councillor.
"I have learned a lot about how things are done, how I should approach matters and, in some cases, how not to do things.
"The position of chair is decided by the full council of a town, or parish, and the public don't have a vote in this process - but as a council we decide upon our new mayor on May 4 - rather a auspicious date for me being a huge Star Wars fan.
"During my time on the town council I have had the privilege and honour to work with so many great, positive people who have a sense of community at heart.
"As a town councillor, I'm a representative on a few boards and organisations; Honiton Community Complex, the Admiral Nurse group, Dementia Friendly Honiton, the Chamber of Commerce, youth services, Hot Pennies, the Millennium Green, and others.
"The idea of becoming mayor is an odd concept, one I have never really sought or desired, however the chance to serve as chair for a term would be a huge honour.
"We always like to think we can inject a touch of ourselves into all the projects we take on and it's my hope that I have been able to share a little of my style and optimism to the groups I enjoy supporting.
"Who can say what will happen in May, at the end of the day, all councillors must and should vote with the strength of their own convictions.
"I'm a true believer in the democratic process and we must all respect the people we chose to serve."
