A new housing development offering exciting opportunities for high quality new homes here in Honiton is already attracting lots of interest from potential buyers.

Housebuilders Taylor Wimpey are providing a selection of two-bedroom apartments as well as two, three and four-bedroom homes at the Mountbatten Mews site on Ottery Moor Lane.

This will accommodate first time buyers, families and anyone looking for a brand new home within a thriving rural community,

Referring to members of the site team, one happy purchaser commented: "Carol and Mandy have been brilliant taking me through the reservation process.

"They are both extremely professional and happy to go the extra mile to make it a very enjoyable experience."

To find out more Honiton Nub News spoke to Sales Executives, Carol and Mandy, and asked them about the new development – what it will bring to the local community, new opportunities it provides and what they love most about introducing buyers to their new homes.

Here's what they told us…

What benefits will the construction process bring to the local community in Honiton?

A new development brings all sorts of benefits both during and after the construction process. We estimate that Mountbatten Mews will create 187 full-time and 62 temporary jobs per year of construction, as well as 94 indirect jobs.

Some of these workers will be from the local area, and the Honiton economy will benefit from workers spending their money around the town.

The site team will also look to work with local schools, inviting pupils along for a site visit to learn about the construction industry and inspire the housebuilders of the future.

As residents move in they will spend their money in Honiton. Many will work locally, some may start new businesses and employ local people, and all will pay council tax, which will go towards improving local facilities and services.

Once the development is complete it will bring 26 affordable homes (of which seven are shared ownership and 19 are affordable rent) and a new play area to Honiton.

The Travel Plan for the development also includes a commercially-run car club, where residents will be able to rent out a car for short term use, therefore cutting the need for car ownership across the development.

Details are still being confirmed, but we will be happy to share more details about the car club with the community once it is ready.

What do you anticipate being asked the most about when people come to view the new homes?

Everyone has a different budget and different needs, so there is no one thing that we get asked about the most.

We do know that a lot of customers so far are local to Honiton, which is great to see. Most of them know that there used to be a Rainbow shop on the land before we started building.

We try to provide exceptional customer service, and we have worked particularly hard to help buyers during the pandemic this year. Having worked for Taylor Wimpey for some time we know that it is a great company to work for, and we try to pass this on to all our customers.

What will the road names be and are there any names that have specific local connections?

The road names are as follows:

Sion Close

Old Show Field Way

Bobbin Close

Dairy Close

Silk Drive

Crier Street

It is important for Taylor Wimpey to try to reflect local history when choosing development names and suggesting road names to local councils.

Dairy Close relates to the dairy that used to be on site, and both Bobbin Close and Silk Drive relate to Honiton's silk lace heritage.

How have customers reacted when they've found their new home?

We have had five reservations since our virtual launch on 12 December.

They have all been waiting for the new homes to go on sale and they are already so happy to be able to see their new home as a reality, even if it is not yet complete.

They are choosing their options, such as kitchen units and tiles, and there is a lot of excitement in the air for them.

What's the best part about your job?

I would genuinely say that the best part of the job is the entire customer journey, from the first enquiry through to handing over the keys and helping customers settle in.

We build relationships with our purchasers and become part of the journey, so we feel every emotion that they go through. It's a very satisfying job and I really love it.

Honiton Nub News is proud to be working with Taylor Wimpey to bring you exclusive news and updates of the Mountbatten Mews development on Ottery Moor Lane.
