New mums and lockdown babies invited to return of Honiton sing and sign

By Hannah Corfield 17th Sep 2021

A Honiton-based sing and sign group, in its 16th year of running, is excited to announce a return to group sessions.

East Devon Sing and Sign will hold a class at the Honiton Methodist Church next Thursday at 10.30am, designed for newborn babies up to six months old.

The session will focus on the mental wellbeing of lockdown babies and new mums, the value of eye contact, facial expressions, repetition and much more.

"These essential elements help mum and baby establish amazing communication skills using the magic ingredient of music," Sarah Glover, who leads the group, told Honiton Nub News.

"We are all set to go ahead having carried out risk assessments and made all the necessary adaptations to ensure that we are Covid-secure."

To remain inline with Government guidelines, sessions will focus more on listening to the music, with people encouraged to speak lyrically rather than sing.

Sarah went on: "We are really excited to be able to accept babies that are toddling to the group next Thursday, as our stage one class tailored towards children six months plus is at capacity with a waiting list."

This will be the first time that the group is held at the Methodist Church and Sarah wished to thank Pastor Alan Mcilveen for being so accommodating.

"For anyone isolating, or unable to attend the venue, they can still enjoy our weekly sessions online. The content is the same as our regular class, so you and your baby needn't miss out on learning signing the fun way," Sarah added.
