Honiton Fire Station held a charity car wash on Saturday, 18 January to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK; an organisation dedicated to saving the lives of men affected with prostate cancer.
Nub News attended the event, which raised an incredible £622.60 for the cause.
Crew member, Gary Willis, explained why supporting Prostate Cancer UK was so important to Honiton Fire Station: "We had a firefighter from East Devon retire last year, who then found out he had prostate cancer.
"We decided to raise awareness about the disease as a tribute to Graham.
"A hundred per cent of the money we collect today will go to the charity and we'll be doing other events throughout the year.
"Normally we would be raising money for the Fire Fighters Charity, but in this case we think it's quite poignant that we support this cause instead."
Gary explained a bit about the service provided at Honiton Fire Station: "We've got 25 firefighters based here and we're an on call town station.
"We generally receive around 250 shout-outs a year and we've got two fire appliances.
"Everybody here has another primary employment and live within five minutes from the station.
"We've all got an 'alerter' and as soon as that goes off we all have to come in; so it's quite a commitment and it's 24-7."
