Tesco Honiton is well known for its charitable contributions to community projects, the money for which is derived from the sale of donated books in the store's foyer.

Yesterday evening (October 28) Duncan Sheridan-Shaw paid a visit to Twin Tigers Martial Arts and Boxing Club, located upstairs at number 88 on the High Street in Honiton, to present a cheque for £250.

The club, which had its official opening on October 12, will use the money to buy new body amour for the children's classes.

Nub News caught up with owner, Paul Quick, to find out how the initial few weeks since opening had gone.

He said: "The reception has been absolutely, overwhelmingly positive.

"People come in, see the premises and in awe of it.

In terms of what is on offer and pricing, Paul explained: "We offer a range of different classes - Muay Thai, boxing, jiu-jitsu - with a month's membership costing £39.95 per person to attend training sessions in a chosen discipline.

"Kids membership is £29.95 and we also offer a family discount, so example if there is a family of four all doing the same discipline, it would cost £70 for the month.

"Similar discounted memberships apply for couples who train together as well - the pricing varies a lot, so it's worth chatting to myself, or a member of staff to find out the best option.

"One thing we are keen to advertise is the fact that, unlike other gyms in the town, we charge on a monthly basis - so people aren't forced into signing up for a whole year, or whatever, which can be very off-putting.

"Here, people are encouraged to come and try us out and see if they like it first and then pay as and when they think they are going to use it.

"We also offer yoga classes, which are pay as you go - discounted for members - and we have two ladies providing sports massages, again at a reduced rate for people using the gym.

"I'd like to remind everyone that we will be putting on the white-collar boxing event at the Beehive on Saturday 23 November, which looks set to be a fantastic evening.

"It's supporting the See The Future charity and I would encourage everyone to get their tickets as soon as possible.

"We've got new councillor and rugby man, Nathan Hannay, taking to the ring, so it'll be interesting to see the outcome of that fight."

To book tickets contact Paul Quick on 07511 800303.
