A popular East Devon pub has closed and it is not clear whether it will reopen.

The Bowd is located on the A3052 near Sidmouth, on the corner of the road to Ottery St. Mary. It is famous for its popular Sunday carvery and is a firm family favourite due to its garden and children's play area.

The pub was taken over by the Webb family in 2014 and it survived the challenging period Covid-19 when many pubs were forced to close their doors permanently.

A statement on their website states: ""Sorry, but we are closed until further notice. Thanks for your support."

There is no mention of the closure on the Bowd's Facebook page, where the last post invited customers to book the last available tables for Christmas.

A message on the Bowd's answer machine says that the pub is 'temporarily closed'.
