A35 closed near Axminster after serious collision

Emergency services are currently at the scene of a serious collision involving two HGVs on the A35 at Kilmington Cross, Axminster.

Police, fire and ambulance were called at 5.50am this morning following the head-on collision on Gammons Hill.

One male driver has sustained serious injuries. The second driver sustained a serious leg injury and has been extracted from his lorry by the fire service. He has been airlifted to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital by air ambulance.

The road is blocked and is expected to be closed for some time. Diversions are in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area for the time being.
