The Beehive will be screening a performance of Like Water for Chocolate on Thursday, January 19 at 7.15pm.

This new Royal Ballet production is the brainchild of artistic associate Christopher Wheeldon who worked with composer Joby Talbot and designer Bob Crowley. The trio were the creative team behind the company's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and The Winter's Tale.

It is a co-production with American Ballet Theatre and Mexican conductor Alondra de la Parra worked as musical consultant for the score.

The ballet is inspired by Laura Esquivel's novel of the same name. It is a modern Mexican classic of magic realism in which the central character's emotions spill out through cooking to influence everyone around her in startling and dramatic ways. Ms Esquivel worked closely with Mr Wheeldon to reshape her richly layered story into an entertaining and engrossing ballet.

The production has received great reviews, with Culture Whisper saying: "You have to give it to Christopher Wheeldon: if anybody can turn a complex novel crammed full of the improbabilities of Latin-American magical realism into a fluid, clear and cohesive dance narrative, this choreographer can."
