The owner of a florist which put down roots on Honiton High Street just a month before lockdown, is hoping she can make the best of a bad situation.

Claire Bowden opened Wild and Whimiscal Flowers just as the pandemic hit, the effect of which greatly impacted on initial business projections.

"That's the way the cookie crumbles," she told Honiton Nub News when we caught up with Claire in her new shop.

"It hasn't been ideal. I couldn't do anything for weeks on end and being a new business, I didn't receive a grant.

"It's obviously quite worrying because I've had to use all my savings up, so I really need to make it work from now.

"Luckily, my landlord has been really understanding which has helped."

Speaking about what motivated the venture, she said: "Ten years ago, when we moved to the Westcountry, I decided that it was time to get back into work - as my sons were older - so I went to college as a mature student and study Level 2 and 3 Floristry.

"I was working in another florist while I was studying, then when I finished I decided to take the plunge and give it go - and here we are!

"I chose Honiton because I think it's a lovely town and there is a strong sense of community."

A website is soon to launch and can be accessed here Wild and Whimsical Flowers.
