A woman has died after being hit by a car in Ottery St. Mary.

Yesterday (20 January) police were called to Cadhay Lane in Ottery at around 11.30am, after being informed that a woman was injured in the road.

Emergency services attended the scene and road closures were put in place and remained in situ for around 10 hours whilst scene investigation took place.

A local woman in her 60s was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital where she sadly passed away. Her next of kin have been informed.

It is thought that the woman was hit by a vehicle which failed to stop at the scene, therefore the incident is being treated as a suspected hit-and-run collision.

A 23-year-old local man has been arrested by the police on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and failing to stop and report a collision.

He has been released on bail until 20 April.

Police are continuing their investigations and are appealing for witnesses. If you have any information or footage that may help, please contact police via 111 or their website, quoting reference 0282 19 January.
