VIDEO INTERVIEW: Serena Sexton on the future of The Beehive
When you think of Honiton, what springs to mind? The rich heritage still celebrated in the town today, the vibrant High Street teaming with independent businesses, the active community spirit which gives Honiton its identity?
All those things; and the fact it's now home to an award-winning arts venue in the name of 'The Beehive'.
This new state-of-the-art facility is a symbol of Honiton's future success; putting the town on the map when it comes to attractive destinations in the region.
The calibre of performers, productions and cinema shown there is nothing short of phenomenal.
It's precisely this diverse and desirable event listing that brings people to the town. Once here, they have the pleasure of enjoying food and drinks at one of a number of 'proper good' pubs, bars and restaurants.
If it's during the day, they will likely pop into town to peruse the fine selection of shops and cafés that make Honiton unique and alluring.
The Beehive is part of the lifeblood of the town; an active hub where the community can strengthen and grow.
What we've seen in recent times, in dealing with a global pandemic, is how absolutely crucial community is to a collective sense of wellbeing.
We need the community to thrive for the sake of us all individually.
The Beehive - nurturing the arts and our community - is fundamental in ensuring positive mental health moving forward; when faced with the unprecedented adversity we are currently experiencing.
