Village shop appeals for volunteers to stay open

Our shop is unquestionably one of the greatest assets that Payhembury has and it is a complete triumph that for the last seven years it has been run entirely by volunteers.

The village is extremely lucky to have a superb team of loyal and outstanding parishioners who do an exceptional job every day keeping the shop alive, and we owe each and every one of them a huge debt of thanks.

However, the harsh reality is that I spend time on the phone every week trying to fill the vacant slots on the shops rota. We need more volunteers to keep our shop open.

We all lead busy lives but some of our volunteers do just one hour a week – and I can assure you that every single hour is hugely valuable; I urge you to consider doing the same.

A new volunteer spends time with 'old hands' to learn the ropes and only goes solo when they feel good and ready.

Please phone me if you can help – we need you NOW. Be bold and stick your head above the parapet – you will without doubt enjoy it, and become a member of a very valuable team.
