Anyone who's thinking of volunteering for a local charity or community group can find out more at an event in Honiton on Saturday, September 25.

Honiton Health Matters are holding a Volunteer Fayre at Mackarness Hall, with representatives of many local organisations who desperately need volunteers in order to keep their services afloat.

They're hoping that some of the people who came forward during the first Covid-19 lockdown to help their communities will once again offer some of their time to help.

A spokesperson for Honiton Health Matters said there are plenty of good reasons to start volunteering. For a start, it enables you to connect with your community and give something back, helping to make it a better place. But it's a two-way street; volunteers may benefit just as much as the cause they choose to support.

Volunteering can help you make new friends, expand your network and boost your social skills. It can give you the chance to build on your own knowledge and experience, learn new skills and maybe even discover some hidden talents. In some cases you can even gain qualifications from volunteer work. Through volunteering you can also challenge yourself to try something different and achieve personal goals.

You can spend as much time as you like with your chosen organisation – it can be just a couple of hours a week, or more.

The Volunteer Fayre will be a chance to meet and talk to people from a wide range of local organisations, and find something that interests you.

It's taking place from 9am until 1pm on September 25 at Mackarness Hall, Honiton.
