VIDEO: Honiton fire crew called to assist with blaze in Ottery St Mary

Emergency services were called to a domestic blaze caused by a chip pan at a terrace house on Mill Street in Ottery St Mary.

According to Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue: "We received a call reporting a smoke alarm sounding in the property at around 8pm yesterday evening (23 Aug).

"Fire engines from Ottery St Mary, Honiton and Middlemoor in Exeter were quickly mobilised and soon arrived on scene.

"Fire crews confirmed one casualty still within the property. Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and rescued the casualty.

"The fire was located within the kitchen of the two-storey terrace house. Crews extinguished the fire using two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, a positive pressure ventilator, covering jet and a thermal image camera.

"The property was 20% damaged by fire.

"The casualty was taken to hospital by the ambulance service suffering with very minor smoke inhalation.

"The fire was caused by a chip pan within the kitchen."
