A Honiton Nub News reader has paid for the Community Use Building (CUB) to have its roof replaced.

Two weeks ago Nub News reported on how the CUB needed to urgently raise £34,000 to avoid imminent closure due to an unsafe roof.

More than twelve groups use the building each week - approximately 500 people - and the building's closure would have meant they would not have been able to continue.

A Devon resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, came forward after reading the article and made a donation which will allow the repairs to go ahead this summer.

Mike Jones is the Chair of Honiton Community Spaces, the charity which owns CUB. He told Nub News: "We received a donation from an individual who read about the situation.

"Honiton Community Spaces would like to thank everyone who donated to our Raise the Roof fund. We have now reached our target and would like to thank Nub News and Richard Foord MP for his visit and ongoing support.

"We would also like to thank all of the trusts and organisations who helped with funding, including Inspiring Connections and Sean Brown Media.

Clare Jones is the Manager of CUB. She added: "We are absolutely thrilled, delighted and amazed!

"Everyone is so relieved. Now we can get the roof fixed and focus on supporting people in the community. We were blown away."

Mr Foord is also helping the charity with grant applications which would, if successful, enable further renovation work to be carried out, including replacing the windows, installing solar panels and potentially creating a café.

The Crowdfunding page will be open until July 31st.
