It's 'the biggest day of the summer' for Honiton – and this year's Charter Day on Saturday is going to be even bigger than usual.

Arrangements for this year's event began later than usual, as the organisers had to wait for the Government's 'roadmap to recovery' announcement in February. But since then, it's been 'all systems go' to create an event that the chairman of the Charter Day committee, Terry Darrant, says will offer 'something for everyone'.

The national decrease in Covid infection rates appears to be reflected in many parts of Devon; some districts have seen an increase, but East Devon isn't among them.

According to government data for the week to Thursday 22 July, the number of cases fell across all three of the county's upper tier authority areas – Devon, Torbay and Plymouth.

Proposals aimed at protecting East Devon's trees from destruction by developers go before district councillors tomorrow (Tuesday, July 27).

A motion brought by Cllr Jess Bailey will ask the council to introduce a 'robust' policy which includes proactively making Tree Protection Orders, and supporting town and parish councils in safeguarding trees in their neighbourhoods.
