The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning covering the Honiton area for tonight with the rest of the weekend forecast to be a mixed bag.

A weather warning for heavy thundery showers potentially leading to flooding, interruption of power supplies, delays to public transport and damage to buildings has been issued by the Met Office.

The picture above shows East Devon Councillor Tony McCollum along with a handful of people who gathered at the Honiton War Memorial today to lay wreaths and stand in silence for two minutes as a mark of respect to all the United Kingdom, Commonwealth and United States soldiers who took part in the D-Day landings.

They showed the greatest courage imaginable as they took part in the landings 75 years ago today.

The next of the 2019 Honiton and District Chamber of Commerce and Industry events will take place on Saturday, August 31, with a coach trip to Dartmouth Regatta.

The coach leaves The Beehive Centre in Dowell Street at 12pm arriving at Dartmouth with time to visit the shops, view the regatta and have an evening meal before watching the superb firework display from the quayside at 9pm.

East Devon District Council has appointed a new firm to maintain its 4,200 council homes.

Established UK property services firm Ian Williams Ltd will be contracted to carry out all aspects of the maintenance and improvements of the council's properties, which includes providing a day-to-day repairs service for tenants and fixing issues before they become a more expensive problem. The contract also includes bringing empty properties up to standard before being re-let.

The Beehive Honiton is hosting Bristol Old Vic Theatre School's touring performance of Geoffrey Chaucer's famous story, The Canterbury Tales, on Saturday 22 June at 7.30pm.

Adapted for the stage by John Hartoch, The Canterbury Tales has a colourful cast of characters who set off for Canterbury, competing to tell their tales of love, lust, adventure and chivalry.
