Another frustrating defeat for the Ton

By Guest 17th Sep 2021

Honiton received the kick off and started solidly. Early exchanges around the half way line saw Honiton enjoy early possession add in a turnover and the away side were holding their own.

Several penalties to the home side saw them pressure the Honiton try line but strong defence and winning a penalty at the breakdown saw the pressure relieved.

Ill discipline was hurting Honiton despite a strong defensive effort they conceded the first points of the afternoon with penalty 3-0 after twenty minutes.

Honiton were playing well and only a couple of spilled passes preventing them getting a score.

Wellington got the ball in to the Honiton twenty and after some relentless pressure they scored the first try of the game after half an hour. The try was converted and 10-0 to the home side.

Honiton got their first score of the day with a penalty through Ollie Cave 10-3 after a high tackle on Johnny House.

Wellington responded with a try wide right through their number 14 who side stepped inside to beat the defence. The conversion was missed and 15-3 just before half time.

Unfortunately Wellington were not done and great break by their live wire 7 saw him feed to the supporting scrum half who scored wide right.

This was in converted giving a half time score of 20-3 to the home side.

With ten minutes of the second half Wellington got their bonus point try through their number 6 who forced his way over to the left of the posts, the conversion was successful 27-3.

Honiton did not let their heads drop and they pressed for their first try but wasted overlaps and not touching the ball down when the scrum drove over the line saw the chance to score go begging.

Wellington hardly ventured in to the Honiton half but when they did they retained the ball well and scored through their full back near the posts, the try was converted 34-3 to Wellington.

Honiton responded well though and Johnny House made a good break and scored to the right of the posts for good individual try Cave converted 34-10.

The joy was short lived when a kick ahead was returned with interest and the ball went through several hands and their fourteen scored under the posts.

The extras were added and the final whistle went with the score line not reflecting the effort from the Honiton team.
