Woz On - Rugby World Cup, next week's fixtures and the proposed new lease for Allhallows
So, what a week I've had! Saturday, watched the England game and was quietly impressed and as I said last week, with Slade you get moments of brilliance mixed in with mistakes, but it turned out fine and we did look good.
I see Eddie's reverted back to Ford for the next game, I guess the call was about mistakes and you can't afford mistakes when the stakes are so high!
The All Blacks did a job on the Irish and all I can say is they looked very impressive. Still, as Eddie says, all the pressure is on them and they are clearly expected to win against us.
Looking forward to it already.
Welsh boys played the 'get out of jail' card and a moment of madness from the French second row and a few missed kicks at goal, did for them.
As for the Japs what a great effort and what a story they've had but, it's a fact in rugby, a good little 'un is always going to be undone by a good big 'un.
Power was the thing.
In the second half the Boks subbed their two props and on came two more enormous 'things'.
The ginger haired 'thing' looked like he come straight off his Transvaal farm where he wrestles with bullocks before tossing them on to the back of his truck!
I think the Welsh will also be underdogs in their game as well! It would be great to have two Northern hemisphere teams in the final and it would add a bit of needle for sure as we both love each other on the rugby pitch!
Saturday at Tonsville we entertained Chard and the big question after the game was 'how did we manage to lose that?!'
11 points up with nine minutes to go! I was speaking to one of my new Chard chums and he, along with their supporters, couldn't believe they'd won.
So it was a huge disappointment for us all round. We must battle on. No one said it would be easy this season. We must keep the faith and let's hope the injury list soon starts to get better.
The Otters (Twos) lost at Kerton and they were a bit miffed as it was a league game against their third string supposedly!
But they only went and cancelled their second team game that morning, which obviously meant they then had a much stronger squad to pick from!
Unfortunately you have to live with that at second team level. Still it was a good performance according to their manager Robbie Harrison.
I also had a 'life' moment this weekend, as I crossed the bridge into official 'oldness'!
I had a bit of a family bash on Sunday which was very nice and big thanks must go to the 'long suffering and my skin and blisters' for organising it all and helping out.
Thanks for all the best wishes etc, and I have a 'well old' badge which I'm wearing on my coat with pride.
I can't help wondering how the hell I've managed to get to this age and perhaps from now on I might try growing up a bit. Nah - it's too late for that, me thinks!
Sunday was a busy day for the junior section and thankfully after several delays from the supplier all of our teams had their new shirts to run around in.
The 11s and 12s went to the tournament down at Exeter Athletic, which was called the Landrover cup and it was basically a festival of rugby with loads of teams attending from all around the county.
Our teams acquitted themselves well in the numerous games they played.
Politics - Boris' 'Sausage trifle' got a 'maybe' vote but two minutes later, it got scuppered with some more skulduggery.
Apparently the MP's need to have a longer look at the recipe ingredients. This is fine, but this will just mean more arguments over it and the longer we get, the more they will argue.
I'm sure the Europeans will give us more time but they won't agree to even more changes to the blinkin' recipe!
Or will they? And on it will go. I wonder if Boris has started looking for that ditch he mentioned!
Can't help thinking all of them are the missing the 'mood music' from Joe public. 'Tis the season for Bonfire night isn't it?
Did any of you see that chap called Guy Fawkes wondering around Westminster last week? He was handing out business cards apparently.
Local politics - not sure if you saw but the announcement regarding our lease on Allhallows was announced by East Devon Council on Monday.
At long last some great news, especially given the years I've been banging my head against the wall over this.
There have been several social 'meja' comments about it. Most of which were all very supportive.
All I can say is we've played rugby at this site for many a year and I doubt anyone is old enough to know it being any different, we've always been here!
And we are of a mind to just make sure that this can continue for a lot longer, but just with a bit more security for once.
We are a community club that is here for the local community to enjoy and with that in mind, getting this lease can only help us support more of the community.
It just means we will be able to get access to grants from the RFU, as we will now have 'security of tenure'.
When you go to other clubs, they all seem to have various projects that have come to fruition because they can access funds and for us, this now means we can consider this as well.
Mind, it's a shame really, as we have already finished the extension we did to improve our lot, which we basically funded through ourselves and the generosity of the community.
I know we are much the poorer for doing this without grants but hey ho!
Anyway, Andy Canniford is going to the Town council meeting on Monday to answer questions and put minds at rest as to the intentions, which are all honourable.
Saturday - we are going over to Cully for the first team game and it's a 3pm kick off.
They are struggling this season as well, so it should be a right old 'ding dong' and another keenly fought new local derby which we will win!
The seconds are at home against Exeter Athletic and I remember watching this encounter last year and what an entertaining game that was.
We are struggling a bit with help to serve up the food for the seconds this week. If you can help, give me a call I will explain all and then bite your hand off to help!
Sunday sees our under 7s, 9s and 13s at the hallowed turf and the 8s 10s 11s 12s and 14s all down on the estuary. Everyone is playing Topsham.
