Honiton Scouts Leader shares missed celebrations for the group

On Sunday, 26 April, 1st Honiton Scout Group would have celebrated their St. George's Day Parade.

It was also an opportunity to mark other significant achievements for the group; all of which had to be cancelled due to current social distancing measures.

Nub News spoke to Group Leader, Helen Turner, who explained: "We were going to parade from the car park up to St. Paul's Church for a service including the renewal of our Scout Promises for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts."

"It was also a chance to look back at our Scouting in Honiton history, as the group celebrated its 90th anniversary in February of this year.

"To finish off, we were going to have our new section flags blessed in church.

After the service, light refreshments and birthday cake were going to be served in Mackarness Hall to mark the occasion.

"We were inviting anyone that had any connection to the group to pop in for a cuppa and piece of cake and to say hi," Helen said.

"Also on Sunday my husband Ray should of been awarded his Chief Scout's Commendation For Good Service.

"The Scout Association Role of Honour is published every April and Ray was very surprised to see his name on the list.

"He was a leader many years ago with the Scout Troop and got the award as the Scout Group would be lost without him.

"Myself and Zoe are so proud Ray got this award, as he does a lot for the group in his spare time."
