The Honiton Litter Pickers are a group of Honiton residents who meet regularly to collect litter in and around the town.

They are looking for help from volunteers and businesses to help rid Honiton of litter. Since the group started in early 2021, the group has grown to 200 volunteers, but more help is needed.

One of the group's founding members, Rob Waldron, spoke of his frustration at seeing his hometown covered with litter: "It's always been a pet hate of mine, any fly tipping or throwing of litter. I have even passed comment in the past if I have spotted them in time. I used to pick it up when walking the dog."

The aim of the group is to decrease the amount of littering occurring in the town, but also have Honiton be recognised as one of the cleanest towns in the Southwest. Rob explains: "We all know the environmental detriment of littering, but we want the residents of Honiton to not just think of the plants and the animals, but to take pride in their town".

"The group grew with help from the Lions Club of Honiton with some funding and support from a couple of local businesses. East Devon District Council were also keen to help giving advice and a drop off point for litter we collect."

Rob and his team are in need of further support from the council and local business to purchase and sponsor more bins. Rob stated: "we desperately need additional bins and sadly the council do not consider it a high priority. I do keep nagging them though and one day they might surprise me."
