PC Mingo of Honiton's Neighbourhood Police Team has described the scene on Honiton high street after a road traffic accident.

The incident took place at approximately 11:45pm on Sunday April 3.

It was reported that a car collided with several parked cars, and had ended up on its roof.

The Police, Ambulance and Fire services all attended the scene.

Two men were taken to hospital and their families informed. One man, aged 32, sustained potentially life-changing injuries and another, aged 22, sustained serious injuries.

In a statement on the Rural East Devon Police Facebook page , PC Mingo said:

"I was on duty in Honiton Police Station when a serious road traffic collision occurred almost directly outside The Holt, a short distance from the station.

"I was first Officer on the scene to a male trapped in the vehicle who presented with serious injuries, became unresponsive and temporarily stopped breathing.

"I administered first aid and lay prone maintaining his airway, unable to do much else at the scene until help arrived.

"Firstly, I would like to extend my thoughts and wishes to the driver and his family.

"Secondly, I would like to extend a personal thank you to the members of the public who assisted in calling the ambulance and fire services, who treated the passenger in the vehicle, and who helped me maintain the integrity of the scene by giving myself and my emergency service colleagues space to work.

"I would in particular like to thank the female member of public (whose name I did not catch) who helped me administer aid to the male within the overturned car and kept checking his pulse for me.

"Sometimes we can attend incidents where the public are obstructive toward us. Last night I was pleased to find the Honiton community stepping up and offering to do anything they could to help.

"I am proud to serve this town."

If you witnessed the collision and haven't yet contacted the police with your details, please call 101 and quote log 0964 03/04/2022.
