Based in Honiton, the charity Devon Freewheelers want to make people aware that their volunteers are available to give talks to local community groups, schools and businesses.

Participants will learn all about what the free service provides and how it is operated by a group of volunteers who all contribute their various areas of expertise to help save lives across Devon.

Speaking on behalf of Devon Freewheelers, Caroline Retter said: "We are extremely proud of our volunteers within the charity who provide the free Blood Bike service to the NHS across Devon.

"Not only do they provide the service, but they also help fundraise to keep it operational by giving talks to community groups, schools and businesses and by attending fundraising events.

"Fundraising is a vital part of the volunteer role within Devon Freewheelers as the charity receives no payment from the NHS for the service it provides."

The Devon Freewheelers volunteers have also recently been nominated for a Voluntary Sector Award in the Outstanding Care Awards Devon and Cornwall 2020, which they are 'delighted' about.

As stated on the website, which can be accessed via the red button below: "Devon Freewheelers Emergency Voluntary Service (also known as the Devon Blood Bikes) have been providing their services to the people of Devon since 2009.

"We are a team of volunteer GMP trained riders and GMP trained drivers, call handlers and fundraisers who are dedicated to providing a 24-hours a day, 7-days a week service.

"We support the NHS in delivering essential whole blood, blood and other medical samples, medication, patient notes, medical equipment, tissue samples and donor breast milk to hospitals, air ambulances and other NHS establishments and even to patients' homes throughout Devon."
