The Random Kitchen situated at The Rugby Club on Allhallows playing field is keeping vulnerable members of the Honiton community fed during the Covid-19 outbreak.
There are currently thousands of meals - each including a soup starter, main and a pud - stored in one of six freezer units, courtesy of Cool Heat.
In fact, the whole operation has been made possible thanks to the generosity of Honiton businesses and townsfolk who have dug deep - offering produce, equipment and pennies to provide for those who would otherwise be going without.
A small team of volunteers are currently involved with the operation - sourcing produce, preparing meals and delivery - including Cathy McCollum (head chef), Cllr Tony McCollum, Cllr Jason Hannay, Anulka Prowsowska, Cllr Caroline Kolek, Cllr Michelle Pollination and TRIP's Sharon Thorne, among others.
Nub News caught up with Tony McCollum, who explained: "We've been feeding three homeless gentlemen who are situated in Honiton, but due to the current situation are being given somewhere to self isolate by the council.
"We're also supporting vulnerable families who have been moved to the area for their safety as a result of domestic abuse, which risen significantly with families forced to quarantine under the same roof.
"We look after the elderly and vulnerable. I take a hot, three-course meal to one 90-year-old woman seven days a week, who was found with just one jar of marmite and bread in her cupboard.
"Everything we provide is free of charge (F.O.C) and has been donated by the people of Honiton.
"There has been tremendous support from everyone in the community, from the freezers being donated to the food and containers.
"Tesco have supplied lots of Easter Eggs, so next week we will be dishing them out to kids.
'We also support the school and the students who would normally receive a free school dinner.
"At the moment enough stuff is coming in to enable us to provide the service, but we can only go on as long as the food keeps coming in.
"We are relying on anything and everything that gets donated. People come down with a dozen eggs, or a bag of spuds.
"We're currently waiting to here from the Tesco in Chard, as they may have a surplus of produce they can donate.
"We're getting financial donations as well, because we need to buy some stuff, as we don't always get all the ingredients we need to make a meal.
"We also need containers, cleaning materials etcetera, so we've got a
Crowdfunder page going. "Basically, we won't turn anything away. If we've got a surplus here then we supply the 55 Club, which we've already done. "It is literally a whole town effort. It's amazing. "In times of need you find out how good your town is, and the community here has really pulled together."
