East Devon District Council (EDDC) will hold an extraordinary full council meeting to discuss the findings of an independent investigation into a former East Devon councillor and alderman.

The investigation looked into the actions of EDDC following allegations against John Humphreys. Criminal charges were then brought against the former Councillor.

John Humphreys is now serving 21 years in prison after being convicted in August last year. He had previously been a long-standing East Devon District and Exmouth town councillor, and is a former Conservative mayor Exmouth.

It follows a resolution from councillors in September 2022 to commission Verita to carry out an independent investigation, and there were reports that it could cost £50,000 to undertake.

The investigation is now complete and their report gives recommendations for the council to consider.

The meeting will take place on Thursday 23 March.

The agenda for the meeting and the associated reports can be viewed here or by visiting the council website.
