Back in January 2020, Sarah Glover delivered a moving speech at the Honiton Health Matters AGM on her own experience that motivated her to set up the Parent+ Support Hub.
Since then, the Honiton-based mental health support group has gone from strength to strength, despite the challenges of Covid.
Over 80 families are now benefiting from the services available – with nearly 900 people connecting online.
We caught up with Sarah, who has just restarted in-person meetings, having relied on Zoom for the past year while restrictions have been in place.
She told us: "Amazingly, we have continued to grow during lockdown and now have four professionals on the board; two directors and an additional needs expert – all from different backgrounds, but specialising in mental health.
"The way that we work is that we support family mental health and are a collaboration of those of us who have lived experience, listening volunteers and professionals."
She said the support she has received from the Honiton community has been 'overwhelming'; both in offering community spaces to use free of charge and supporting initiatives, as Combe Estate has done.
"We are really grateful to Zest Cafe in Black Lion Court, The Lacemaker's Cafe and Serendipity for allowing us free use of their businesses, out of hours.
"On top of that, we are holding Hub drop-in sessions at Honiton Wine Bar and Serendipity and moving forward, are looking to set up an office at the Honiton Family Church.
"Using these spaces located in the heart of Honiton is a really good way of encouraging people, who may be isolated and lonely, to come out into the community more."
