Fire at a farm near Honiton causes extensive damage

Fire Services received a call after a barn caught on fire in Wick, near Honiton, at 3.12am this morning.

Two Fire Engines from Honiton, one from Ottery St Mary, a Water Bowser from Bridgwater and Incident Support Unit from Bovey Tracey, were all sent to the scene.

A statement issued by Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "On arrival crews confirmed this was a single storey barn used to store farm machinery and livestock.

"All livestock were clear of the fire.

"The fire was extinguished using four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and one foam jet.

"The cause of the fire was accidental.

"There was 40 per cent fire damage and 50 per cent smoke damage to the barn.

"The machinery inside the barn was 100 per cent damaged by fire."
