Devon County Council are offering fuel vouchers to people in East Devon who have key/smart meters, and Citizen's Advice are asking people to come forward this week.
Citizens Advice East Devon said: "We are committed with our partner agencies, that no one in East Devon is going cold or hungry this winter, and particularly at Christmas."
This comes after the government announced that over £500 million pounds worth of support was going to be made available this year to support families through the winter.
Citizens Advice East Devon have been given funds to top up electricity and gas that are pay as you go, and these top ups can be for up to £98.
Although the scheme runs until March 31st 2022, anyone needing help with fuel this Christmas needs to get in touch with Citizen's Advice before the end of the week, so that the money can be issued before the organisation closes for the Christmas break.
Sheran Taylor of Citizens Advice East Devon said: "If you would like us to do this for you before Christmas, please can we have your applications by Friday 17 December to allow us time to apply on your behalf.
"Anyone who has a key meter (or a top up smart meter) who is finding it a bit financially difficult this winter can apply. The vouchers, in the form of emailed codes from Charis Grants can then be taken into participating retailers where they are put onto your keys or cards."
You do not need to be on benefits to claim the vouchers, and if you are these funds will not affect them.
If you are struggling to pay for fuel but you do not have a key or top up meter, there are other schemes available locally that Citizens Advice East Devon can direct you towards.
If you would like to apply, please call 01395 265070 or email [email protected] or visit Citizen's Advice East Devon's Facebook page.
