The Beehive is opening its doors later this month and inviting the public in for an Open Day.

The award-winning community and arts venue welcomes more than 59,000 visitors a year. It hosts frequent events including live music, cinema, community meetings and fitness classes. It is also the base for Honiton Town Council.

Upcoming events include the Honiton Community Theatre Production of The Addams Family and a National Theatre Live production of Othello.

Last month the centre opened a café in the previously underused bar area.

The Beehive opened it 2014 and since then it has been recognised for providing outstanding survives to Honiton. It was awarded 'Best Venue' at The 373 Business Awards and 'Community Centre of the Year' in the Devon Community Honours.

The centre is run by the Honiton Community Complex Charity and, after a public consultation, still receives some support from Honiton Town Council, although it is hoping to become financially independent soon.

The Open Day, which will take place on February 24, is an opportunity for visitors to discover the wide range of activities and events which the venue offers.

Visitors will also be able to meet the members of staff and volunteers who keep the venue running.

Terry Stacey will provide live music in the afternoon and visitors can enjoy free line-dancing lessons with Western Spirit at 3pm and 6pm.

There will also be free samples of the café food and free genealogy and craft workshops with U3A. There will also be a craft corner for children as well as an opportunity to view the Quarantine Quilt Exhibition in the gallery.

A number of groups will have an information stand on the day, including The Arts Society Honiton, Honiton Community Theatre Company, Paula Ferris Pilates, Nostalgic cinema, Honiton Town Council, and The Beehive volunteers.

A spokesperson told Nub News: "The Beehive has become a unifying force for the local community, providing a welcoming environment for shared experiences and activities.

"Don't miss your chance to see the Beehive in action and discover all it has to offer!"
