Honiton Carers enjoyed a brilliant day at The Studio at Creative Beings, Awliscombe on Wednesday 26 July.
We started off the morning session with Pottering with Plant, which today included our catch up chat about what has happened in our own gardens during the past month. Fiona our tutor as usual endeavoured to solve any issue we have experienced. This was followed by a walk to the poly tunnel where we took cuttings of an incredible vine loaded with of clusters of sweet grapes, unfortunately the rain stopped us from walking up to the Eco Forest on this occasion.
We returned to the studio and did lots of potting of various cutting chosen from the lovely garden. We were much to our delight, able to take some of the cuttings home for our own gardens.
A very tasty lunch of quiches, cheeses and salads followed before we commenced on the afternoon Art & Craft session.
Today we made dry clay pinch pots for seeding but also had a chance to make something of our own choice. Lots of wonderful results, our carers truly are very talented whatever we do at Art & Craft and Karen our tutor, who works at Honiton Pottery, patiently took us through the procedure step by step. Apparently the clay will dry white after which we will be able to paint and lacquer our ornaments and finish them off at home. Very interesting session much enjoyed by all.
Thank you to our hosts Sue and Martin for sharing their space with us and to our great tutors who teach us something new every month. To have respite in such wonderful surroundings is truly a treat and fabulous for the carers who go home with renewed resilience and lots to share.
If you are an unpaid carer and would like to join our group please get in touch with Winnie Cameron on 07874 636926 or email [email protected] for more information. We would love to hear from you.
