Honiton: Your chance to meet the users and groups of the CUB
The CUB will be opening its doors to members of the public this weekend.
The community building, on School Lane, is holding an Open Afternoon this Saturday, which will take place after Charter Day has finished.
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the people that use the CUB, visit the Rural Skills centre in the woodland behind and watch wood crafting skills.
Refreshments will also be served.
Approximately 500 people use the CUB each week and it hosts 15 groups, including toddler groups, Open Arms East Devon, Honiton Youth Club, the Repair Café and The 729 Club, a weekly group for adults with learning difficulties.
The team behind the CUB recently secured a large donation from an undisclosed local business owner which will pay for the building's roof to be repaired.
Just a few weeks ago it was likely that the building would have to close due to the dilapidated state of the roof and the Community Spaces Charity were organising various fundraising schemes to raise the £34,000 to replace the roof.
A visit from Richard Foord, Honiton's MP, and local media coverage helped to raise the profile of the CUB fundraising campaign, which in turn prompted a Nub News reader to make a substantial donation which saved the building from closure.
The CUB Open Afternoon will take place from 3 - 6pm on July 29 (after Charter Day.)
