Honiton: Council sends £150 tax rebate letters to residents
East Devon District Council (EDDC) have written tax rebate letters to all residents who live in A-D band homes.
East Devon residents are being given £150 to help cover the cost of increased energy bills.
Residents who pay their council tax by direct debit will soon begin to receive their letters, so long as the following conditions are met:
- The property must be in bands A, B, C or D (or E with a disablement reduction)
- The occupiers are liable for tax at the address and
- The property is their sole or main residence
If your direct debit was set up before March 31 2022, the money will be paid into your bank account.
You should receive your payment direct to your bank account within 15 days of EDDC receiving your April payment of council tax. EDDC's direct debit instalment dates are on 1, 17 and 25 days of the month and your date will be shown on your bill.
If you wish the money to be deposited in an account which is not the one you pay the direct debit from, you should contact EDDC. You can do this by visiting this website or call 01395 517 446 and select option 4 for Council Tax Rebate. There may be delay speaking to an officer as EDDC is expecting high call volumes.
EDDC will be writing to individuals who do not pay for their council tax by direct debit separately. They will need to apply for the rebate.
Councillor Jack Rowland, EDDC's portfolio holder for finance, said: "EDDC is administering this scheme following the recent announcement from the Chancellor. T
The £150 rebate will go some way to help to alleviate the increasing utility costs for residents in the property bands shown above that have been determined by central government especially in view of the latest inflation figures and other increasing costs apart from electricity and gas."
