The Honiton Glen Conservation Group meet each week but they are in need of more volunteers.
The group meet every Tuesday between 10am and midday. They support the work of the East Devon District Council's small grounds team. The volunteers carry out seasonally based maintenance work, such as removing brambles and any other hazards, weeding, litter picking, edging and leaf clearance.
Members of the group always work in groups so that nobody works alone and they use manual rather than powered tools.
There are plans to improve the condition of The Glen and this work will mean the small grounds team will be even busier. Work will soon be undertaken to plant trees, repair handrails, replace base boards beside pathways and replacing some benches.
Paul Fealey is the Horticultural Technical Officer for East Devon District Council. He told Nub News: "The group's active membership has decreased a lot over the last couple of years, which is understandable.
"However, this reduction means that the few dedicated members who do donate their time and energies each week are not staying on top of the unwanted growth.
"The volunteer's work greatly aids the work of the small grounds team, and will be invaluable in the near future, when the grounds team and other EDDC departments will concentrate their efforts on site improvements."
If you would like to volunteer to help keep The Glen clean and tidy, you can contact the group on [email protected]
