One of Honiton's oldest and most well-known cafes is looking for individuals to sublet it this summer.

The current owners are trying to sell the café but in the meantime they have decided to sublet it.

Lacemakers Café is located on the high street in the middle of Honiton. It's history as a café goes back to the 1950s. It is a Grade II historic building with unusual bow windows, which look out onto the pavement.

The inside of the café has been recently renovated and decorated by local artists.

Up to 50 people can sit inside, and there is also a patio area and garden at the rear of the property. There is also pavement seating a la Parisienne available outside the café.

Fiona Hanratty has been running the cafe

The family who currently run the café are subletting because the owner is retiring this year and the manager/chef is taking time off this summer to travel and spend time with family and friends.

Lacemakers Café is set up ready to go, with its fully functioning working kitchen and lots of loyal customers.

Fiona Hanratty's father owns the café, and she has been helping to run it. She told Nub News: "We've had a good 10-year inning serving our loyal customers including Honiton and East Devon residents, tourists and visitors.

"We've enjoyed the friendliness, conversations and laughter we've shared with our staff members and customers alike. There is loads of potential for not only a daytime café but also evenings, events, celebrations, theme nights. A summer of fun hustle and bustle with a good buzz."

The cafe has been recently renovated

Fiona would particularly love the café to be run as a community space run as a not-for-profit, much like the Waffle House in Axminster.

According to Fiona, the café would offer amazing experience for anyone with a hospitality background. However, it would also be an exciting opportunity for people looking to move into the food industry.

The Lacemakers Café is available on a casual monthly basis for £1300, which covers rent, water, electric and waste collections. Please email [email protected] if you're interested.
