A mum-of-two from Honiton is continuing her epic fundraising year for Hospiscare by taking part in the Summer Walk at Darts Farm.

Earlier this year, Nub News reported on local woman Rachel Payne who is taking part in a number of marathons and ultra marathons in memory of her mum Helen, who died of cancer six years ago.

Rachel and her family will participate in the seven-mile Summer Walk on 8 July.

Rachel is determined to raise as much money as she can for Hospiscare, which provided support for Helen and her family in her final few weeks.

As well as raising much-needed funds to enable Hospiscare to provide support to local families, the event is set to be a culinary treat.

Participants will enjoy a gelato ice cream at Darts from before setting off on the walk and then will be served a strawberries and cream picnic in Lympstone. The Puffing Billy pub will then offer a final treat to keep energy up - a summary glass of Pimms!

This event will not be as challenging as Rachel's previous runs, which have included the London Marathon, Jurassic Coast Ultra Challenge and Dartmoor Ultra Marathon.

Rachel said: "I can't wait to take part in the Summer Walk, as it's something the whole family can take part in – I'll be with my husband and children and my brother and sister-in-law and their children.

"Running ultra challenges and marathons can be hard going. This time I am really looking forward to enjoying the walk, taking my time and having fun with the children. The strawberries and Pimms on offer are an added bonus!"

Rachel says, "Hospiscare is just such an amazing charity. It gave so much support to my mum over the years, and particularly to us as a family at the very end. I still do not know how we would have coped without the end-of-life care team.

"The love, care and compassion they showed throughout mum's final days at home will never be forgotten. They provide such incredible support to families in need – fundraising is our way of giving back and showing our thanks."

Martin Stokke, Events Fundraiser at Hospiscare, said: "Our seven-mile sponsored walk promises a celebration of summer with beautiful views along the Exe Estuary, award-winning ice cream, a strawberries and cream picnic and a quintessentially summery glass of Pimms en route.

"The circular route is suitable for a range of ages and abilities and our aim is to make the Summer Walk a brilliant experience to enjoy with friends and family, as well as a way to support local families at a time of real need."
