A professional musical theatre performer based in Honiton will be lighting up screens, this Sunday (16 May) from 4pm, for the first Gin and Jazz live session charity fundraiser.

Signed singer, Mawgan Stott, will be performing an afternoon of jazz and swing hits from her living room; inviting viewers to 'come and relax and listen to covers of artists like Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong and Nat King Cole.'

The only catch is you have to bring your own gin! All money raised will be going to the Hospiscare charity, which has suffered a major blow as a result of Covid-19.

The coronavirus crisis also happens to be the reason that Mawgan is currently in Honiton and able to perform.

"I was supposed to be on a cruise ship right now, the Fred Olsen MV Black Watch, as a lead vocalist and dancer for their show team," she told Honiton Nub News.

"It's completely derailed sectors within the entertainment industry, particularly on my side of things.

"Everyone I know is in the same boat - it's a really tough time.

"My manager is really struggling as all his work has been affected and he suddenly has nothing to do."

As a professional singer, Mawgan specialises in musical theatre classics, jazz and pop and rock.

Her experience spans a wide array of genres from playing a dancing chef on The Polar Express at Seaton Tramway to being a cast member of Candlelight Murder Mystery, who perform loosely scripted comedy murder mystery nights across the South West.

"I perform at all kinds of events and venues locally, such as funerals and at the Conservative Club in Honiton.

"It would mean the world to me if people tune in on Sunday and maybe leaving a donation for the wonderful Hospiscare charity."

Spokesperson for Hospiscare, Toni Hiscocks said: "We are extremely excited and honoured to have Mawgan perform for us this Sunday.

"She is such a phenomenal performer; professional in every way and has been an absolute star helping us set this up.

"As a charity, Hospiscare relies upon the fundraising support of the community to provide its vital service.

"The coronavirus pandemic has drastically affected Hospiscare's fundraising efforts with all twenty of our charity shops forced to close and our fundraising events and public-facing activities cancelled.

"We have predicted a loss of over £1 million every three months until we can hopefully return to our normal levels of activity.

"The full impact of the pandemic on our fundraising remains unknown.

"We need our community's support now more than ever to help our charity survive and ensure that we continue providing vital, specialist care for people living with a terminal illness in Honiton."
