A shop on New Street has been searched by Devon and Cornwall Police following concerns from members of the public.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team executed a warrant on 19 June. The warrant was authorised under Section 23 of Misuse of Drugs Act.

The police worked with staff from Trading Standards, who used their specially trained dogs who can sniff out cash, drugs and tobacco.

During the search a 'hide' was discovered which was being used to conceal counterfeit products.

Illegal tobacco, cigarettes, and vapes were then seized from the premises and removed.

Trading Standards will now continue their investigation into the Honiton shop.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team emphasised to the public how important intelligence is.

A spokesperson said: "Without intelligence [from members of the public] we would be unable to conduct this sort of proactive work.

"It helps to prevent and detect crime, whilst ensuring the safeguarding and protection of our community. You may think that information will not be useful but it may be the final missing piece to the puzzle.

If you suspect illegal activity you can call 111 or report it anonymously via Crimestoppers.
