Preparations are underway for this year's popular Honiton carnival.

East Devon's carnival season will kick off on Saturday September 2 in Seaton, with Honiton's event taking place on Saturday 28 October.

Ottery St. Mary is no longer part of the East Devon circuit and so Honiton will be the last carnival of the year.

Barnstaple Youth Marching Band will lead the procession which will depart at 7.30pm from Ottery Moor Lane.

The band will entertain the crowds as they progress along the High Street and will be followed by the Mayoral party, Honiton Twirlstars and the Honiton 'Royalty' float.

The 'Royal Party' who will be representing Honiton throughout the East Devon carnival Circuit is made up of five local children.

This year the party will include Maddelin Golding (aged nine), Amelia Tratt (also nine), Amber Paver (aged seven), Esme Pawley (seven) and Finley Holmes, who is five.

Maddelin, Amber, Esme and Finley attend Littletown School whilet Amelia goes to Honiton Primary School.

The children will take part in a crowning ceremony on Saturday 21 October at Mackarness Hall.

Karen Wilson, Secretary of Honiton Carnival, said: "It's that time of year when we are starting to think about the upcoming carnival season.

"Work is taking place throughout the area on the floats and the walking entries which will light up the streets of East Devon this autumn."

Fundraising events will be taking place over the summer to help raise money for the floats.
