Honiton's Repair Cafe will take part in a nationwide event to fix and repair as many items as possible.

The nationwide Big Fix event is taking place throughout the month of May.

Earlier this year, the Repair Cafe helped a record-number of users at its monthly event where the volunteers helped to fix a range of items, including video equipment from Honiton Museum.

Miriam Thomas, who set up the Repair Café, is delighted to be part of a nationwide push to reduce waste and hopes to see as many people as possible at Honiton's event, which will take place on May 20.

In Devon, The Big Fix is coordinated by Devon County Council's Recycle Team and will see skilled menders fix broken items including jewellery, garden equipment, clothing and electronics to reduce waste and save people money.

2023 is the third year The Big Fix has gone nationwide, with 43 Repair Cafés in Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and England having already signed-up.

Councillor Roger Croad, Cabinet Member for Public Health, Communities and Equality said: "Every day we throw away thousands of items which, if given a little attention, could be easily repaired.

"Repair Cafés are an ideal way to save money and reduce waste. Visitors can take broken items to be fixed, learn tips and tricks from skilled menders on how to make future repairs themselves and it's also a great place for people to meet and chat."

Honiton Repair Café The Big Fix event will take place on 20 May between 9.30am and 12.30pm at the Community Use Building, School Lane, Honiton.
