Honiton Community College is now an 'eco brick' drop off point and are asking people for donations.
An eco brick is a plastic bottle stuffed full of non-biodegradable plastic waste which can then be used as a building material.
It is way of reducing single-use plastic going to waste and harming eco-systems. Instead, the plastic is put back to use creating structures; such as furniture, outside spaces and pieces of art.
Nub News spoke to student, Becky Taviner, who explained about the project: "I am currently working, alongside a few peers, to spread the word about our registered eco brick drop off point.
"They are a super easy way to reuse your plastic waste.
"To make them, all you have to do is stuff your plastic bottle with clean non-biodegradable plastic waste until they weigh around 0.3g to every 1ml, this works out at 110g for 330ml bottle, 167g for a 500ml bottle, 333g for 1L bottle and 666g for 2L bottle, etc.
"We really need people to start donating their unrecyclable plastic to us.
"We are trying to reach a wider audience than just the pupils at our school, who have had assembly presentations, so would love to use this platform to advertise this to the local area.
"With the bricks we are collecting, we plan to first of all build a shelter in the school's woodland area.
"We then want to donate some to fellow eco brick centres, where they will be sent to countries facing poverty to help them build shelters; such as schools, houses and hospitals which they would otherwise be deprived of."
