Honiton's Sing and Sign Choir, which meets on the first Friday of every month at the rugby club, is run by mum and daughter duo Sharon and Naomi Parnell.
Both are qualified Makaton teachers, which is a unique type of sign language that is designed for people who may struggle with communication.
One member of their large and all-inclusive group of singers and performers is 16-year-old Alfie, who is huge fan of the pop singer Olly Murs.
Having always been told "all you can do is try", Alfie decided to write a letter to the star in hope that he might perform for the Sing and Sign choir, or in some way acknowledge the request.
According to Sharon Parnell, who spoke to Nub News: "Alfie is a very quiet young man, who according to his mother has never asked for anything in his life.
"She was amazed when she heard that whilst on work experience at Mill Water School, he had asked to write a letter to Olly Murs, which he then typed out.
"It's now being shared on social media and we are really hoping that it gets spotted by the star who may well do a video message or something - you never know."
Alfie is a keen guitarist and people are invited to watch him perform at Honiton Rugby Club on Friday, March 6 between 6-8pm.
Honiton's Sing and Sign Choir will have been running for two years this June and are sponsored by Parnell coaches, who pay for equipment, T-shirts and provide free transport for the group.
This year they are performing at Cranbrook Festival, Exmouth Festival and Budleigh Salterton Tea Dance. You may also have seen the group perform in the foyer at Honiton Tescos.
