Woz On: Storm Dennis dashes play while grassroots rugby suffers funding blow

Weather is our dilemma at the moment. No wonder people go abroad in the winter!

Seriously though, the weather has played havoc with rugby this year and as I've mentioned before, I've not seen it wetter for many a year up at Tonsville.

Saturday we all trooped over to Chard for the first team game and in front of a large crowd it was an entertaining game, sadly we were on the end of another loss.

We were well beaten in the scrum department but actually, we also played some good rugby in other departments and ended up only just losing.

Crucially, we somehow got two bonus points out of the encounter so we're still alive and kicking.

The game was played just as the wind was picking up and then during the night Storm Ciara arrived and rightly all the Sunday junior fixtures fell victim to the gales, rain plague, etc.

So, on to this week: firstly the RFU sent out a dicta saying funding is being cut to all but the top leagues and frankly all smacks of, the rich get richer and the rest suffer.

Think it's clear the grassroots will suffer yet again.

Woz On is going to be a bit brief this week as frankly we ain't going to be playing rugby this weekend either.

It's been very wet all week, just in case you haven't noticed.

I went up early this morning to discuss things with my council chums. They were all doing a lot of head shaking and frankly, given Dennis is due to hit the shores this afternoon and comes delivering rain all weekend, we have taken the early decision to called everything off early.

I doubt anyone who hasn't got a first class stadium will be playing rugby this weekend. Anyway, it's feet up, sort out the loft and garage or go shopping.

Chin up all! The sun will come out at some stage. And just to say, the game cancelled this weekend against Cully will now be played next weekend.
