Town Clerk for Honiton Town Council, Mark Tredwin, has raised £6,000 for the Purple4Polio charity through car racing, this season alone.

Mark realised a long-held dream of racing cars three years ago, when he set up Team Treddie Racing - with a Caterham he named 'Little Jo' in honour of his mother, Joy.

Working with Williams Motorsport, he uses the car and exposure through racing, as a means to support Purple4Polio - a charity run by Rotary International, which aims to eradicate the poliovirus globally.

Polio has been eradicated from every country, bar Pakistan and Afghanistan. Sadly, the cases in these two countries have risen from 23 last year, to 51 this year.

In the process of providing the immunisation to children, just under 100 people have been deliberately killed.

If the immunisation program is not completed and polio in the wild is not eradicated, then within two years there will be 100,000's of new cases of polio worldwide.

Nub News spoke to Mark, who explained: "I've managed to convince 50 plus drivers at race events to carry the Purple4Polio logo.

"One of the drivers actually won the race, with the teams in second and third also sporting the Purple4Polio logos.

"There were also seven teams racing under Purple4Polio entered in the biggest race in the UK at the end of October, which really helps to raise awareness of the campaign."

At the end of the race, Mark was presented with an award from the Rotary Club of Great Britain and Ireland for the work he has done in highlighting the cause.
