Honiton Town Council have issued a statement inviting members of the community to apply to be considered for co-option as a Town Councillor.
In February 2022 members of the public were invited to stand to be a Town Councillor in St. Paul's Ward and St. Michael's Ward after a series of resignations.
In St. Paul's Wand, only three people stood for four positions. Consequently, these individuals - Joseph Furneaux-Gotch, Debra Hulin and Caroline Kolek - were duly elected without the need for an election.
In St. Michael's Ward, six people stood for election and four were elected after a closely run contest.
The Town Council are now seeking to fill the fourth space in St Paul's Ward, and they are doing this via co-option.
Anyone interested in becoming a councillor can fill in the application forms, and, after eligibility checks, they will be invited to make a presentation to the Town Council during the public session of a Full Council meeting. The existing members of the Town Council will then vote on who they would like to co-opt, and this will be announced immediately.
This meeting will take place on Monday 13 June at 7pm.
Further details of the meeting, including the agenda, will be posted here in due course.
If you are interested in becoming a member of Honiton Town Council, or you know someone who might be, please contact the Town Clerk on [email protected]
The deadline for applications is Friday 13 May.
